Australia's going digital HOME
On 1 January 2001 (010101) Australia will move into the
digital age with the introduction of digital television
broadcasts.
The introduction of digital television will change the nature of broadcasting.
It will not just bring clearer pictures and sound but more choices and
greater control over what you watch and when.
Audiences will be able to choose between high definition television on
standard definition TV, extra channels on ABC and SBS, and interactive
services that may include text, images, audio and video. Traditional
programming will also develop in many new ways, increasing flexibility,
range, interactivity and depth.
